Part IV

The Pilot Day 3

After the success of the second day, we were pleased to see that when we arrived on site, the operators we had trained the day before were already on the handheld units practicing. They had been through several procedures without any further assistance which was good to see. Not only was this nice for us to witness, it also added confidence in the project to the supervisors and plant manager.

After the plant had finished their usual morning meetings we did another session of desktop application training. This was possibly even more succesfull than the one we had run the day before. The company had decided to send along it's Food Safety Manager who was very impressed with what he saw. he thought that not only was the training good but also he could see from a wider corporate persepctive, what possibilities would be opened up if they were to adopt a broader use of the system.

After lunch we had a post training review meeting. This was designed to provide opportunity for the supervisors and plant manager to comment on the training (so we could gain feedback), and also to highlight any concerns or gaps they felt may exist. During this meeting we also focused for a short while on what would actually happen on the go live day and beyond so that everyone understood what their responsibilities were. This brought to our attention that the siting of the docking stations (for charging the units) needed to be organised.

After this I suggested that we identify several standard reports which should be run and printed each day. As this was a pilot, I wanted to make sure that we had a collection of data for each day at the end of the pilot so that there was substance to look at when reviewing the project. One of the staff from the accounts office was designated as the person who would run and file these in a folder each day. I took some time to go through with her, what she would need to do, how to run the reports and which parameters to use.

Everything was set for the go live day and everyone was happy.

The tale continues.....
